Dermaplaning is a process that uses a blade to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skill cells and remove the fine facial hair commonly known as "peach fuzz." This fine hair also called villous hair, is common for many women and tends to increase as you age. It is very different from the head and underarm hair and, because it is so fine, it will not grow back thicker.

Dermaplaning is an effective alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion or can even be used in conjunction with those procedures for enhanced results. The results are immediate, producing a more radiant appearance, with skin that is exceptionally smooth with a glossy finish. Patients will find that afterward, makeup application is smoother, and other skin products penetrate more in-depth, making them more useful.

Dermaplaning is painless and convenient since there is no downtime necessary, and makeup can be applied right away. Patients are strongly advised to use sunscreen to prevent darkening of the skin, called hyperpigmentation, and encouraged to maintain the treatment results by using medical-grade skincare products at home.
